A book is a fragile creature, it suffers the wear of time, it fears rodents, the elements and clumsy hands. so the librarian protects the books not only against mankind but also against nature and devotes his life to this war with the forces of oblivion.

This nation has always struggled with how it was going to deal with poor people and people of color. Every few years you will see some great change in the way that they approach this. We’ve had the war on poverty that never really got into waging a real war on poverty.

In war, whichever side may call itself the victor, there are no winners, but all are losers.

The White House isn’t the place to learn how to deal with international crisis, the balance of power, war and peace, and the economic future of the next generation.

For the sake of the troops, for the love of the troops, we must not add yet another casualty to this war. We must not let truth be a casualty of this war.

This is a war universe. War all the time. That is its nature. There may be other universes based on all sorts of other principles, but ours seems to be based on war and games.

Love has its place, as does hate. Peace has its place, as does war. Mercy has its place, as do cruelty and revenge.
