Walk a mile in my shoes is good advice. Our children will learn to respect others if they are used to imagining themselves in another’s place.

I don’t need to go onto Facebook and pretend to have friends I’ve never even met. To my mind, that kind of destroys the meaning of the word ‘friend.’ I take exception to that. Because I value and respect friendship.

I always used to say to my wife, the thing that I loved most about us is that we are a team, we are impenetrable in that respect.

We’ve become much more casual and much more relaxed in social interactions, where there was a formality and maybe a kind of respect at that time that doesn’t exist now.

The only theism worthy of our respect believes in God not because of the way the world is made but in spite of that. The only theism that is no less profound than the Buddha’s atheism is that represented in the Bible by Job and Jeremiah.

I learn something from criticism because when it comes from sources you respect you always examine it and learn.

I look for these qualities and characteristics in people. Honesty is number one, respect, and absolutely the third would have to be loyalty.

America thinks of itself as a meritocracy, so people have more respect for success and more contempt for failure.

I cannot consistently, with self respect, do other than I have, namely, to deliberately violate an act which seems to me to be a denial of everything which ideally and in practice I hold sacred.
