Writing a song is much like being an author. Yes, we all have tools to write (everyone has a brain I hope!), but that doesn’t all of a sudden make us best selling authors.

And as far as false hope, there is no such thing. There is only hope or the absence of hope-nothing else.

People tend to overstate my resilience, but, of course, I hope they’re right.

Change is not a destination, just as hope is not a strategy.

I hope this doesn’t sound pompous but I don’t think of myself as famous, whatever fame I’ve got has come through what I’ve done and associations of things I’ve done.

Oh man. If I had magic powers… I would hope that I would use them for good. I think I would. But I would do something pretty trivial like making traffic disappear.

My contribution I hope is to get people to eat full-flavored food. If I could come away with that alone, that would be a fantastic accomplishment. I’m also very proud of being a very American chef.

It seems to me there is a change in what audiences want to see. I can only hope that’s correct, because there’s an awful lot of people of my age around now and we outnumber the others.

We really feel happier when things look bleak. Hope is endurance. Hope is holding on and going on and trusting in the Lord.
